RECOGNISING AND WRITING YOUR NAME

RECOGNISING AND WRITING YOUR NAME Hi, it's Stacey. I'm here to talk about writing your name. Before we can do this, you need to be able to recognise the letters in your name. Do you know: The first letter of your name? Do you know all of the letters in your name and how many? My Learning pack can help you learn your name. Here's how: 1. Use the alphabet cards to locate each letter in your first name (you can focus on your surname later on). Lay them out in the order that your name is spelt. Count how many letters. Say each letter name. 2. Now use your finger/or whiteboard marker to trace each letter card (begin at the red dot and follow the arrows). Verbalise this. e.g. up, down, turn etc. Talk about the visual picture clues that you see on each card. e.g. mice are moving over the mountains, upper case M looks like mountains, down, lift, down, up, down. 3. You are now ready to practise using your laminated name card and can also use your name sheets for more practice too. Sil the elephant's tips - please always teach name writing with first initial in upper case and the remaining letters in lower case. This will establish correct name writing for school. - Name writing requires good fine-motor control and strength. Build hand/finger strength with using monkey bars, manipulating play dough, squeezing foam balls, pinching clothes pegs etc. - big letters/little letters are called upper case (capital letters) and lower case in school. - learn to recognise your name in other ways too - why not use dry pasta to spell your name, draw your name in a large, shallow tub of sand, locate and cut out letters in magazines and glue them on paper. The options are endless. Get creative! Happy Friday,

Love
