CHOOSING THE JUST RIGHT READER, "THE 5 FINGER RULE"

MY GUIDE TO USING THE FIVE FINGER RULE FOR HELPING YOUR LITTLE ONE PICK THE RIGHT BOOK TO SUCEED.

Getting started

  1. Have your child choose a book that they will enjoy.

  2. Have them go to the middle of the book and pick a page to read from.

  3. Ask them to hold up a finger for each word they don't know or are unsure of

  4. More than five words, we need to choose another book and perhaps keep this one as one we can read aloud to them to share the experience and the love of reading.

Remember the book still needs to be their choice we are looking to give them the perfect fit just like in "Goldlocks and the three Bears", Just Right not to easy, not to hard.
